FAUX FUR AND PINK

IMG_4260.jpg

Hope you guys had an amazing Easter!!! My family and I got together last night for dinner. We had such an amazing time bonding and regaling each other with stories.

I wore the pink sheath dress on sweet pink and animal prints last fall so for today, I decided to give it another twist with the faux fur vest which added some texture then completed the look with the high-heeled sandals from Zara.

COOL COLORS AND THE LITTLE BLACK SKIRT

IMG_4167.jpg

Am taking some art classes at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and we are currently painting landscapes, blending the use of cool colors like purples and ultramarine blues, with warm colors like burnt sienna, oranges, and amber. I couldn’t help infusing that color scheme to my outfit today. Perhaps I’ll be sharing a few paintings and sketches once in a while.

I’m a huge fan of impressionist painters like Degas, Monet, Mary Cassatt, Van Gogh, and Pissarro.  These painters not only painted modern life in its element, but they embraced unconventional methods of painting, which in the beginning was frowned upon by academic painters. Baltimore is a city that’s huge on art and I am looking forward to exploring the museums this summer. Additionally, the city hosts the Artscape. The largest FREE arts festival, that attracts 350,000 plus attendees over the three days. How awesome is that? This year's Artscape is from Friday, July 18th to Sunday, July 20th.

For my outfit, I donned a flouncy little black skirt, a blue menswear sweater, and wore orange heels as the accent color. If the weather got cooler at night, my purple pea coat would come in handy.

GARDEN FULL OF FLOWERS

It being March, it’s without a doubt that flowers are about to bloom. Florals are on my mind especially after that horrid winter we’ve been having. The zinger Meryl Streep's character (Miranda Priestly) quipped on the Devil wears Prada always comes to mind when I think of florals.

“Florals? For Spring…?  Groundbreaking.”

As I was perusing my favorite thrift store for vintage finds this past fall, I came across this 80s flowered dress that had linebacker sized shoulder pads!! It also lacked hanger appeal, and just seemed too long for my 5’4 frame. After trying it on, I was quite surprised at how beautifully it draped on me. The pleats were divine, and the length was spot on! I just had to have it.

Personally, I think biker jackets should be a closet staple. They add that extra zing to an outfit, making it more edgy. Nothing completes an outfit like a shoe, for me these classic black stilettos are everything!!! Everything!!!

I have been looking for the classic black shoe for a while and I think I just hit the jackpot with this pair. I rated them R for having some serious toe cleavage.  For such a colored outfit, I decided to have the monochromatic accessories to tone things down. Then once in a while, Forever 21 scores some major finds, like the green structured clutch bag which completed the whole look.

UHURU GARDENS

Am seated in my apartment looking out as the snow falls gently on the ground. It's been a really nasty winter this season, the numbing wind chills, relentless snow storms arrrgghhh.... It's enough to make me throw my hands up and book a flight to Cancun. Since that aint about to happen, lets focus on more exciting news!!

Lupita Nyong'o won her first Academy Award for her role in 12 YEARS A SLAVE. She looked extremly gorgeous in her Nairobi Blue, custom made Prada gown. And her speech was beyond beautiful. Congratulations Lupita!!

So on my final post from my trip to Kenya, I stopped by the Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park. It is the venue where my country's independence celebration took place over 50 years ago. The memorial park is very significant since it commemorizes the birth of Kenya as an independent country. Just looking at these pictures make me want to go back!!!

Notice the Nairobi Blue skies........

I wore a beautiful sleevless Kikoromeo peplum top and pencil skirt for my interview with Ann McCreath. Ann is the president of FAFA - Festival for Fashion and Arts which organises 'Fashion for Peace' which is focused on bringing together established and emerging African fashion, she is also the owner and head designer of Kikoromeo.

I always have a great time meeting and interviewing people for the webseries. As you can see from the last pic, Ann must have said something that made me burst out laughing like that. Listening to people talk about thier passions, aspirations and even their goals can be very inspirational. Stay tuned for that second season of Kenyan Vibe's webseries, Fashion with Roshie, for my interview with Ann McCreath.

You can shop for Kikoromeo at their store in Yaya Center, First Floor, Kilimani, Nairobi Kenya, or also online www.sapelle.com

Thanks for stopping by. Happy Monday.
