VINEYARD

There is nothing as beautiful as watching the sun rising. It brings the joy of something new, something unknown, hope, and if I may be poetic, dawn of a new day.

There is nothing as beautiful as watching the sun rising. It brings the joy of something new, something unknown, hope, and if I may be poetic, dawn of a new day.

The sunset. It’s stunningly, beautiful twin sister. Covering the earth with it's soft lighting, colors dipped in an array of warm tones, and the sun’s rays dimly stretching out in the horizon as if saying goodbye for the last time. Sunsets bring an ending of what may have been good or bad.  For the good, a realization of what may be or a foreshadowing of what’s in store. For the bad, an ending, good riddance of some sort! And because I’m always an optimist, hope that the next day will bring good tidings.

I’m feeling all poetic today and I blame it on THE NOTEBOOK. (Yes!! The one and only!!)

I have watched it numerous times to a point where am mouthing of words with the actors. My vacation is over and I’m back in Maryland, it’s super cold outside! How I miss that sun back home. I have tons of unpacking to do, laundry and so forth.

THE NOTEBOOK is my feel good movie.  It’s all about love. Never-ending love! If you are slapping your forehead in utter dismay, bear with me here because I just said “Good riddance of some sort” that I mentioned earlier, and as an eternal romantic, there’s nothing wrong with a little optimism. Right?

For the countless of times I have watched THE NOTEBOOK, I never got to read poems by Walt Whitman. He had a huge influence on Ryan Gosling’s character, Noah. For those of us who love poetry (or only me!! Seriously though! Does anyone read any poetry nowadays?) (Oh the crickets! So while you quickly read this post before going back to Instagram or Facebook, try something new, whenever your phone is off or….bah… who am I trying to convince?)

So where was I? Oh yes! Whitman! I was reading a couple of his poems and my writing juices got fired up. I truly get why he is one of the most revered American poets, often called the father of free verse. A latter day successor of Homer, Dante, and even Shakespeare. (I grabbed that from the Internet, thought it would be good to know.)

On this particular day, we were heading to the Vineyard to meet up with a few friends and enjoy a couple of drinks, or more. The sun was setting and I loved that the strongest part of the light was right on my head. Making my bald head glow. The colors were so divine that I had my sister Nimo take the pictures before we lost the light. I mixed up a little bit of everything while putting my outfit together. Who said leopard print can’t go with a mash up of prints? I wanted to wear comfortable shoes that would take me through the night. My leopard pair was it. It’s all about having fun and being confident. Trust me, you can get away with anything.

So as the sun was setting, and dusk was being ushered in, I grinned to the thought of a new beginnings and good riddance to the old.

KANGARI BOUND IN MINT GREEN

There is something about a light, flowy dress. It makes me want to twirl despite the head rush that comes with it...

IMG_8756.jpg

Ok!! I know I know….

I went on vacation and ditched my posts!! My friends who read the blog religiously have given me warnings and such. Apparently, they have been going through our friendship "terms and conditions" since it seems that I'm not doing my part. Ha! Forgive me. I have been enjoying my stay back home and eating like calories do not exist. I tell myself food is super organic, but those masala fries are not!! I mentioned being on a health journey  *coughs* (will catch up on that) but yes, I have been enjoying home-cooked authentic meals, being spoiled rotten, how about those farmer’s choice sausages? I need to stop. Truth be told I am extremely enjoying my time in Kenya that sitting down on a computer to post is an err... afterthought.

Lately, I have been stuck in a rut. I would get on my site and just feel blah! Zero inspiration and drive. I figured I needed to change up a few things on my blog without losing my aesthetic.  I met up with a dope company that will help in my re-branding and I’m extremely, extremely thrilled. We are on the same page about the direction I want the blog to take. Will keep you updated on how that is coming along.

This is an outfit post that's really late.  My family and I were heading to Kangari to visit my in-loves. Before we began our journey, we stopped by at Galleria for a family photo shoot and I decided to take a photo session of my own by the curios market. My darling mother makes her debut on my blog yayyy!! She found me taking pictures and jumped right in with me. She is such a pro. Love you mummy dearest!!

There is something about a light, flowy dress. It makes me want to twirl despite the head rush that comes with it. This mint gem from ASOS was a winner; I covered it up with a grey sweater that I borrowed from darling my sissy Nimo and wore comfy orange wedges.

You can tell where I get my energy from. We were laughing and making funny poses as the camera clicked away. My mother is super-hilarious and there is never a dull moment around her.

There some more outfit posts that will be on here, a tad late but hey, better late than never right?

Thanks stopping by.

A LITTLE WHITE IN THE WINTER

It was a major faux pas to wear white after Labor day. Major! Something that was actually frowned upon.

Happy December everyone!!!!!!

Super thrilled!!! The year is almost over, it definitely feels like winter, and well.... the festive season is here. Jingle THE bells***  Instead of the usual red that I so adore, I have been leaning on some white outfits lately. I might be transitioning to a minimalist!! YIKES!

It was a major faux pas to wear white after Labor day. Major! Something that was actually frowned upon. Thank God we don’t have to deal with that anymore. Who cares what colors you have on? Haven’t we all heard that style is all about you. It is very personal so if you want to wear white the whole year round. Good for you love. Work it, and have tons of Clorox as well.

For my look today, I went with black and white ensemble (again), pieces that I like to think save the day, especially when am undecided on what to wear. White jeans, off-white shirt, printed black and white trench coat, and some black heels. Very simple and can be worn pretty much any where.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

The most amazing thing with gratitude is that no one will ever tell you it is enough. People love feeling appreciated.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Helloooo everybody!!!

Am in such a joyful mood today. Must be the weather..

Anyway, it is Thanks giving and apart from getting ready to feast on some turkey, mashed potatoes, greens, stuffing….and so much more. I'm taking this moment to be grateful. For my family who loves me beyond measure and are ok with unconventional ways. For friends who are always there for me through the good times and the bad. Now those, those are the ones you keep really close. They are members of my family as well. For you my dear reader, who has been reading my posts from day one, or found a link along the way and decided to click on it. Thank you. I am also grateful for the gift of life, ever wondered how many people wanted to see this beautiful day and they didn’t? You have. Make it count.

Every time I get on social media or turn on the news channel on Tv, I get bitter, heated, or angry. Sometimes I am dumbstruck at the avalanche of negative news coming straight at me. I start wondering what is happening to our society. Have we lost our humanity?

I once saw a quote that said something along these lines, “Humanity is the keystone that holds nations and men together. When that collapses, the whole structure crumbles.”

To be honest I can give a dissertation on humanity but I believe I will be left with more questions than answers? I choose not to dwell on it today. I choose to dwell on the positive. The great things in life that make it worth living to see another day. The awesome things in life that will forever be cherished.

Hear me out. The most amazing thing with gratitude is that no one will ever tell you it is enough. People love feeling appreciated. It goes along way. Be it the waiter who refilled your glass of water at the restuarant, the guy who held the door open for you, the woman who told you politely that the dry flat tag on your shirt collar was peeking, the teenage boy bagging your groceries at Whole foods, or the gentleman that held the elevator doors for you. Saying thank you goes a long way. Dish it out. It’s not a jar of milk, it won’t run out.

With Thanksgiving celebration marks the beginning of the festive season. A season to be joyful and as that song goes it’s the most wonderful time of the year. May this celebration give us much more to be thankful for.

Gold and nude was my color palette today. Gold is always festive, and since I'm  in such a festive mood, my vintage skirt with gold prints will do. Paired it with a nude furry sweater and nude high heeled sandals.

As always thank you for stopping by.

Happy Thanksgiving my friends
